How to make Buttercream Icing

Delicious homemade Buttercream Icing is simple to make, and it is what you need to decorate beautiful cakes with. There are all different kinds of flavorings for the icing, from Lemon to Almond.

The utensils that you will need to prepare the homemade Buttercream Icing are as follows:

Electric Mixer

One Large Mixing Bowl

One Spoon, (or more as needed)

Assorted Bowls if making different colors of Buttercream Icing

Aluminum Foil or Plastic Wrap

The ingredients that you will be needing for the homemade Buttercream Icing will be:

One box of Powdered Sugar

Salt

Crisco

Butter or Margarine, (when that I make homemade Buttercream Icing, I use the Butter instead of the margarine, the margarine gives the delicious Icing a yellowish tint.)

Milk

Flavoring, Vanilla, Lemon, Almond (use your favorite flavoring)

Food Paste Colors, if making different colors of the homemade Buttercream Icing

In the large mixing bowl combine one half stick of the Butter with one half cup of the Crisco, and add just a dash of Salt to the Buttercream Icing. Cream the Butter mixture with the electric mixer for about two minutes. Slowly add one cup of the powdered sugar at a time, using the electric mixer to blend, add one tablespoons of milk at a time, adding about two to three tablespoons, depending on what Icing thickness that is desired. Add one teaspoon of your favorite flavoring. Use the electric mixer to blend all of the Buttercream Icing for about four minutes or until it reaches Icing thickness.

Keep unused Buttercream Icing covered and refrigerated when not in use, covering the Buttercream Icing with Aluminum Foil or with the Plastic Wrap.

Use desired food paste colors to tint the Buttercream Icing with using a different small bowl to tint each color with.
